A block is released from the top of the smooth inclined plane of height `h`. Find the speed of the block as it reaches the bottom of the plane.

Text Solution

The forces acting on the block are gravitational force and normal reaction. The gravitational force is conservative and normal force does no work as it is always perpendicular to displacement, hence the principle of conservation of mechanical energy is valid. Choosing the bottom of plane as a reference position,
`K_1=0`,`U_1=mgh`
`K_2=(1)/(2)mv^2`,`U_2=0`
`K_1+U_1=K_2+U_2`
`v=sqrt(2gh)`
