Why is the line spectrum of an element known as the fingerprint of its atoms?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Line spectrum of any element consists of several lines having different wavelengths. It is observed that each element gives its own characteristic spectrum, different from those of all other elements. The spectra of any two elements can never be identical. hence, the line spectrum of an element is known as the fingerprint of its atoms.
