Which type of ores can be concentrated by magnetic separation method?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Magnetic separation can be used to separate magnetic ores from the non-magnetic gangue. For instance, various ores of iron such as haematite `(Fe_(2)O_(3))`, magnetite `(Fe_(3)O_(4))`, iron pyrites `(FeS_(2))` and siderite `(FeCO_(3))` are magnetic. Hence, these can be separated from non-magnetic impurities like silica, by magnetic separation.
