Why are elements of Group-18 known as noble gases?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The elements present in group-18 have their valence shell orbitals completely filled `[ns^(2)np^(6)]`. It is for this reason, they react with a few elements only under certain conditions. That is why, they are known as noble gases.
