Define metallic radius....

Define metallic radius.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) It is defined as one half of the distance between the centres of nuclei of the two adjacent atoms in the metallic crystal.
(ii) The metallic radius is always larger than its covalent radius.
(iii) The distance between two adjacent copper atoms in solid copper is `2.56oversetoA`. Hence, the metallic radius of copper is `1.28oversetoA`.
