Explain why melting point of `NaCl` is higher than that of `AlCl_(3)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Melting point of `NaCl` is higher than that of `AlCl_(3)` because of strong electrostatic forces between oppositely charged ions. On the other hand, `AlCl_(3)` is a covalent compound with lesser forces of attraction.
