How much water must be added to 2lit of decimolar NaOH to get centimolar NaOH solution

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Molarity of a given solution = 0.1 M = `M_1`
Required Molarity after dilution = 0.01M=`M_2`
Initial volume of the solution = 2lit = 2000 ml =`V_1`
Final volume of the solution = `V_2`
`therefore underset"(before dilution)"(M_1V_1)=underset"(after dilution)"(M_2V_2)`
`0.1 xx 2000 = 0.01 xx V_2, V_2`=200 ml
`therefore` Volume of water to be added = `V_2-V_1` =2000-200=1800 ml
