100 ml of ethyl alcohol is made upto a litre with distilled water. If the density of the ethyl alcohol is 0.46g/ml. What is the molality of the solution ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Density of ethyl alcohol = 0.46g/ml,
Vol. of ethyl alcohol 100 ml
Wt of ethyl alcohol = d x v = 0.46 x 100 = 46g
Wt.of water in the solution = 900 x 1 =900 g (`because` density of `H_2O` = 1 g/m1)
`therefore` molality = `(W/(G.M.W))_"solute" xx 1000/"wt of solvent in gms" =46/46xx1000/900`=1.11 m
