The structurs of two compound are given below .
`F_2C = C = CF_2 (I) and F_2 C = C = C = CF_2 (II) `
Which statement is correc ?

A

compound (I) shows dipole moment but compound (II) does not

B

compound (II) shows dipole moment but compound (I) does not

C

both show dipole moment

D

neigher of them shows dipole moment

The correct Answer is:
A

`underset(Sp^(2))(F_2C)=underset(sp)(C) = underset(Sp^(2))(CF_2)`
They are not in one plane because one is .sp. hybridized and others are `sp^(2)` hybridised. So they will show dipole moment
`underset(sp^(2))(F_2C)=underset(sp)(C)=underset(sp)(C)=underset(sp^(2))(CF_2 (II))`
They are in one plane will not show dipole moment .
Rule : 1) even number of double bonds with all same four groups will show dipole moment and odd number of double bonds with same four groups will not show dipole moment .
