For the manufacture of Ammonia by Haber'...

For the manufacture of Ammonia by Haber's process, write the equation and optimum conditions for maximum yield of ammonia.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Chemical equaiton: `N_(2)(g) +3H_(2)(g) underset(Al_(2)O_(3)) overset(Fe_(2)O_(3)) to 2NH_(3)(g) DeltaH_(f)^(.) = -46.1KJ" mol"^(-1)`.
Optimum conditions for maximum yield:
(i) High pressure of 200 atmospheres (or `200 xx 10^(5)` Pa)
(ii) Optimum temperature of 700 K.
(iii) Iron oxide as a catalyst, mixed with small amount of `K_(2)O or Al_(2)O_(3)`
