How many grams of oxygen are liberated on decomposition of 12.26 g of `KClO_3`?

Text Solution

`2KClO_3 overset(Delta)(rarr) 2KCl + 3O_2 uarr`
2 gram moles of `KClO_3` yields 3 gram moles of oxygen
`2[39 + 35.5 + 3 xx 16] = 245 g KClO_3` yields `3 xx 32 = 96 g of O_2`
Therefore, `1 g `of `KClO_3` yield `96/245` g of `O_2`
12.26 g of `KClO_3`, yields
`96/245 xx 12.26 = 96/(2 xx 10) g = 9.6/2 = 4.8 g`
Mass of `O_2` liberated = 4.8 g
