Polymers. Polymers are high molecular mass `(10^(3) - 10^(7) u)` substances consisting of very large number of simple repeating .structural units joined together through covalent bonds in a linear fashion. Polymers are also called macromolecules which are formed by joining of repeating structural units on a large scale. Some examples of polymers are, polythene, nylon 6,6, bakelite, rubber, etc.
Monomers. Simple and reactive molecules from which the polymers are prepared either by adaition or condensation are called monomers. For example, ethene, vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile phenol and formaldeehyde, etc.
