The correct Answer is:
D

Sodium metal reacts violently with water because it is extremely reactive than hydrogen. When sodium is put into water they are highly reducing agent, hence they react with water of form their hydroxide. Also the density of sodium is low, It floats on water. It reacts with `H_(2)O` to form hydroxide.
`2Na(s) + H_(2)O(l) to 2NaOH + H_(2) (g)` + Heat energy Metals like Na, K , Ca, Mg etc. react with water to produce metal oxide and hydrogen gas. Potassium is more reactive/electropositive than sodium. Potassium has a lower melting point and ionization enthalpy. Hence molten metal spread and violently react with water.
`2K(s) + H_(2)O(l) to 2KOH + H_(2) (g) +` Heat energy
