A brass wire of radius 0.25 mm and length 2 m is streteched by applying a force of 2 kg wt. Calculate (i) the increase in length of the wire (ii) the strain. [ Y = ` 9 xx 10^(10) N//m^(2)]`

Text Solution

Data : L = 1.005 m , g= ` 9.8 m//s^(2)`
` T= 2pi sqrt(L/g)`
` = 2xx 3.142 xx sqrt((1.005)/(9.8))`
` = 6.284 sqrt(1.005/9.8) = 2.012 s , " " therefore T= 2.012 s`
The period of a seconds pendulum is 2 seconds. Hence, the given pendulum will lose 2.012-2 = 0.012 s in 2.012 s during summer. Time lost in 24 hours.
`= (24 xx 3600 xx 0.012)/(2.012) s= 515.3` s
