A card is drawn at random from a well-shuffled pack of 52 cards. Find the probability that it is neither a king nor a heart.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Probability of drawing a king ` = 4/52 = 1/13`
Probability of drawing a heart` = 13/52 = 1/4`
However, there is a king of heart that is common in both heart and king cards.
So, we have to subtract it from total probability.
`:.` Probability of drawing either a heart or a king `= 1/4+1/13-1/52 = 16/52`
`:.` Probability of drawing neither a heart nor a king `1-16/52 = 36/52 = 9/13`
