Arrange the following as directed (a) ...

Arrange the following as directed
(a) `N_(2),O_(2),F_(2),CI_(2)` (Decreasing order of bond energey )
(b) `S-O,N-CI Mg -O,` As -F (Decreasing polarity of bonds)
(c ) `sp,sp^(2) ,sp` (Decreasing order of energy of orbitals)
(d) `HF, HCI,HBr, HI` (Decreasing order of dipole moments)

Text Solution

`N_(2)gtO_(2)gtCI_(2)gtF_(2)` [Triple bond `(-=)` in `N_(2)` is stronger bond than double bond (=) in `O_(2)`] Both `CI_(2)` and `F_(2)` have single bond But due to very small size of F-atoms repulsions between non-bonding `e^(-') s` in `F_(2)` molecule are very high therefore bond strength of `CI_(2)gtF_(2)`
(b) `Mg- O gt As - F gt S - O gt N -CI` (Larger the `EN` of halogen more is the energy
(d) `HF gt HCI gt HBr gt HI` (Larger the `EN` of halogen more is the dipole moment) .
