A ball of mass 200g falls from a height ...

A ball of mass `200g` falls from a height of `80 cm`. If `g= 10m//s^(2)`, what momentum is transferred to the floor by the ball? Assume that the ball does not rebound.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here, `m= 200g = 0.2kg`
`s=h=80 cm=0.8m`
`a=g=10m//s^(2)`
If v is velocity with which the ball hits the floor, then form
`v^(2)-u^(2)= 2a s`
`v^(2)-0= 2xx10xx0.8=16`
`v= sqrt(16)= 4m//s`
momentum transferred to the floor, `p=mxxv= 0.2xx4= 0.8 kg ms^(-1)`
