The refractive index of diamond is `2.42`. What is the meaning of this statement ?

A quick look at Table 1.3 shows that refractive index of diamond is the largest `(= 2.42)`. Therefore, optical density of diamond is the largest. As `n = c/v`, therefore `v = c/n`. As n is largest, v is smallest, i.e., speed of light in diamond is minimum.
