A bullet hits and gets embedded in a solid block resting on a frictionless surface. In this process, which of the following is correct ?

A

Only momentum is conserved

B

Only kinetic energy is conserved

C

Neither momentum nor kinetic energy is conserved

D

Both, momentum and kinetic energy are conserved

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

As the bullet gets embedded in the solid block, whole of its kinetic energy gets lost. This will be perfectly inelastic collision in which only momentum is conserved.
