Explain why the speed of a whirl wind in a tornado is alarmingly high ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In a whirl wind, air from nearby regions gets concentrated in a small space. Moment of inertia `(I)` decreases on account of decrease in distance. As `L = I omega = constant`, therefore, angular speed `omega` increases to alarmingly high values.
