Two point charges `+8q` and `-2q` are located at `x=0` and `x=L` respectively. The location of a point on the x axis at which the net electric field due to these two point charges is zero is

A

` 8 L`

B

` 4 L`

C

`2L`

D

`L//4`

The correct Answer is:
C

Suppose that at point `B`, where net electric field is zero due charges `8 q` and `2q`.
`E_(BO) = 1/(4 pi varepsilon_0) . (-2 q)/((a)^2)`

According to condition `E_(BO) + E_(BA) = 0`
`:. 1/( 4 pivarepsilon_0) (8q)/((a+L)^2) = 1/(4 pivarepsilon_0) (2q)/((a))^@`
`rArr 2 = (a+L)/a`
So, `a=L`
Thus, at distance `2 L` from origin, net electric field will be zero .
