A hose lying on the ground shoots a stream of water at an angle `30^(@)` to the horizontal. The speed of water is `20 m//s` as it leaves the hose. How high will it strike a wall `8sqrt(3) m` away from the hose `(g = 10 m//s^(2))`

A

`4 m`

B

`4.8 m`

C

`9.6 m`

D

`2.4 m`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

`y = x tan theta - (g x^(2))/(2u^(2)) cos^(2) theta`
`= 8sqrt(3) tan 30^(@) - (10(8sqrt(3))^(2))/(2(20)^(2) (cos^(2) 30^(@))`
`= 8sqrt(3).(1)/(sqrt(3)) - (10 xx 64 xx 3)/(2 xx 400 xx 3//4)`
`=8 - 3.2 = 4.8 m`
