The correct Answer is:
C

Acetic acid is prepared from fermented alcohols with the help of acetic acid bacteria, Acetobacter aceti. Alcoholic fermentation fo sugars is an anaerobic process but the conversion of alcohol to acetic acid is an aerobic process. This reactions occuring can be summarised as: Anaerobic formation of alcohol :
`C_(6)H_(12) O_(6) overset("Zymase complex")rarr underset("Ethyl alcohol")(2C_(2)H_(5)OH)+2CO_(2)`
Aerobic formation of acetic acid
`C_(2)H_(5)OH +O_(2) rarr underset("Acetic acid")(CH_(3)COOH)+ H_(2)O`
Acetic acid is either used as vinegar after ripening or in pharmaceuticals, colouring agents, insecticides, plastics, etc.
