State and explain Boyle's law....

State and explain Boyle's law.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Boyle'slaw: At constant temperature , the volume of a given mass of gas is inversely proportional to the pressure of the gas.
Mathematically it can be written as
`V=1/P`( as constant t and n)
or `V=k/P`
or PV=k
It means that at constant temperature product of pressure and volume of a fixed amount of gas is constant.
IF `V_1` is the volume of a given mass of a gas at pressure `P_1` and `V_2` is the volume of same mass of gas at pressure `P_2` then according to Boyle's law `P_1V_1=P_2V_2`.
