Compare the stability of Ni^(4+) and pt...

Compare the stability of `Ni^(4+)` and `pt^(4+)` from their ionisation enthalpy value .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) the value of the ionisation enthalpies can be used in estimating the relative stability of various transition metal compounds (or ions ) .
(ii) `P^(4+) ` relative to `Ni^(4+)` can be explained as follows :
The first four ionisatin energies of Ni at Pt are as follows .

(iii) Formation of `Pt^(4+)` requires lesser energy as compared to the formation of `Ni^(4+)`
(iv) Therefore `Pt^(4+) ` compounds are more stable than `NI^(4+)` compounds .
