Consult the table of standard electrode ...

Consult the table of standard electrode potentials and suggest three substances that can oxidise ferrous ions under suitable conditions.

Text Solution

For the half - cell reaction : `Fe^(3+)(aq)+e rarr Fe^(2+)(aq)`, the standard reduction potential is `+0.77V`. Hence, those substance which have standard reduction potential greater than `+0.77V` will be able to oxidise `Fe^(2+)` ions under standard conditions. Three such substance are : `Ag^(+), Cl_(2), Br_(2)`.
