Mineral oil and by-products of oil gets dispersed in water for various reasons, thereby contaminating it. When a bird comes with this polluted water, the oil floating on the surface of the water penetrates the feather and wings of the bird. This is turn annihilates the possibility of bird's fight. In addition the temperature of the bird's body drops considerably resulting in its death. The phenomenon is called hypothermia.
