An ether possesses dipole moment even if...

An ether possesses dipole moment even if the alkyl groups present in it are idenitcal . Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The dipole moment of ethers is because of their bent structure in which C-O-C bond angle is nearly `100^(@)` . Now , the bond polaritites do not cancel out enven if the alkyl groups are the same. Therefore , an ether has always a specific dipole moment value.
