What will be the molality of the solution containing 18.25 g of HCl gas in 500 g of water?

A

0.1m

B

1M

C

0.5m

D

1m

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Molality is defined as the number of moles of solute present in 1 kg of solvent, it is denoted by m.
Thus, ` "Molality" (m)=("Moles of solute")/("Mass of solvent"(inkg)) `
Given that, Mass of solvent `(H_(2)O)=500g=0.5kg`
Weight of `HCl=18.25g`
Molecular weight of `HCl=1xx1+1xx35.5=36.5g`
Moles of `HCl=(18.25)/(36.5)=0.5`
`m=(0.5)/(0.5)=1m`
