What is the effect of increasing pH on the colour of `K_(2)Cr_(2)O_(7)` solution ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When pH is less than 7 (acidic medium), `K_(2)Cr_(2)O_(7)(Cr_(2)O_(7)^(2-))` has orange colour. In the basic medium with pH more than 7, the colour of the solution changes to yellow due to the formation `K_(2)CrO_(4)(CrO_(4)^(2-) " ion")`.
