Mention the principle behind the working of a transformer. Can a transformer used to step up a d.c. voltage ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

A transformer is based on the principle of mutual induction. An emf is induced in a coil, when a changing current flows through a nearby coil. It cannot be used to step up dc voltage because induced emf cannot be produced across the secondary coil.
