If a person is undergoing prolaoned fasting his urine will be found to contain abonrmal quantites of ketones.During fasting energy is obtained by the oxidation or reserved fats. As a result of fatty acid oxidation large amount of ketone bodies are produced such as acetocetate `beta-"hydroxybutyrate"` and acetone.
