A bar magnet is released from rest alon...

A bar magnet is released from rest along the axis of a very long, vertical copper tube. After some time the magnet.

A

will come to rest in the tube,

B

will move with constant acceleration g.

C

will start oscillating along vertical line.

D

will acquire almost constant speed.

The correct Answer is:
D

Magnet first starts falling down under gravity. Induced current in the tube opposes the motion of magnet by applying magnetic force. If tube has sufficient length then after some time magnetic force becomes equal to weight of the magnet and then onwards magnet starts falling down with constant speed.

Assertion : A bar magnet is dropped into a long vertical copper tube. Even taking air resistance as negligible, the magnet attains a constant terminal velocity. If the tube is heated, the terminal velocity gets increased. Reason : The terminal velocity depends on eddy current produced in bar magnet.

A copper ring is suspended in a vertical plane by a thread. A stell bar is passed through the ring in a horizontal direction and then a magnet is passed through it moving along the axis of ring. Will the motion of the bar and the magnet affect the position of the ring?
