Why do stable nuclei never have more protons than neutrons ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Because protons are positively charged particles and they exert force of repulsion on each other and this repulsion become so great in nuclei with atomic number Np = 10. So an excess of neutrons, which produces only attractive forces, is required for stability.
