Lithium and beryllium, the first members of alkali metals group and alkaline earth metals group, show anomalous behaviour due to the small sizes of their atoms and ions, high ionisation enthalpies, high polarizing power and absence of vacant d-orbitals in their valence shell. Lithium resembles magnesium while beryllium resembles aluminium due to diagonal relationships.
Why is LiCl soluble in organic solvents?

`Li^(+)` has very high polarizing power and , therefore , LiCl is covalent in nature . Being covalent in nature , it is soluble in organic solvents.
