The angular dispersion produced by a prism

A

increases if the average refractive index increases

B

increases if the average refractive index decreases

C

remains constant whether the average refractive index increases or decreases

D

has no relation with average refractive index.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

The angular dispersion `theta` i.e., the angle between the extreme rays of light,
`theta=(delta_(V)-delta_(R ))` where `delta_(V )=(mu_(V)-1)A, delta_(R )=(mu_(V )-1)A & A` is angle of prism.
So if refractive index increases, then `delta` increases & hence `theta` increases.
