Explain why inspite of nearly the same electronegativity, nitrogen forms hydrogen bonding while chlorine does not.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Due to larger size of chlorine than nitrogen, the electron density per unit volume of chlorine is much lower than nitrogen. Thus, nitrogen forms H-bond while chlorine doesnot.
