The following four wires of length L and...

The following four wires of length L and radius r are made of the same material. Which of these will have the largest extension, when the samne tersion is applied?

A

Length `= 50 cm`, diameter `= 0.5 mm`

B

Length `100 cm`, diameter `=1`

C

Length `= 200 cm`, diameter `= 2 mm`

D

Length `= 300 cm`, diameter `= 3 mm`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

`Y=(T//A)/(/_\l//l)`
`/_\l=(Txxl)/(AxxY)=T/Yxxl/A`
Here `T/Y` is constant
Therefore `/_\lpropl//A`. As result `l//A` is larges in the first case.
