As oxygen is more electronegative than carbon so carbonyl group exists as a resonance hybrid of following two structure (neutral and dipolar).

Due to presence of the +ve and -ve charges in the dipolar structure the carbon acts as an electrophilic centre while the oxygen acts as an a nucleophilic centre.
