How many moles of `CO_(2)` will be formed when a mixture containing 10 moles each of `Li_(2)CO_(3)` and `Na_(2)CO_(3)` are heated ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

On heating, `Li_(2)CO_(3)` decomposes to give `Li_(2)` and `CO_(2)` whereas `K_(2)CO_(3)` do not decompose.
`Li_(2)CO_(3)overset(Delta)rarr Li_(2)O+CO_(2)`
Since one mole of `Li_(2)CO_(3)` decomposes to give one mole of `CO_(2)`, 10 moles of `CO_(2)` will be formed on heating a mixture containing 10 moles each of `Li_(2)CO_(3)` and `Na_(2)CO_(3)`.
