When silver chloride is dissolved in a l...

When silver chloride is dissolved in a large excess of ammonia, practically all silver ion can be assumed to exist in form of a sigle ionic species `[Ag_(x)[NH_(3))_(y)]^(x+)`. Computer the values of `x` and `y` using the following two cells.
(a) `Ag|0.4 xx 10^(-3)M AgCl, 1M NH_(3)||40 xx 10^(-3), MAgCl, 1M NH_(3)|Ag`
`E_(cell) = 0.1185 V` at `298 K`
(b) `Ag|3 xx 10^(-3)M AgCl, 1M NH_(3)||3.0 xx 10^(-3)M, AgCl, 0.001 M NH_(3)|Ag`
`E_(cell) = 0.1263 V` at `298 K`.

Assertion : Silver chloride dissolves in execss ammonia. Reason : AgCl forms a soluble complex, [Ag (NH_(3))_(2)] Cl with ammonia.

Silver chloride, AgCl ( K_(sp)=1.8xx10^(-10) ), can be dissolved in solution containing ammonia due to the formation of the soluble complex ion Ag(NH_(3))_(2)^(+) . ( K_(f)=1.0xx10^(8) ). What is the minimum amount of NH_(3) that would need to be added to dissolve 0.010 mol AgCl in 1.00L of solution?

Calculate the emf of given cell Ag| underset(0.001M)(AgNO_(3)) || underset(0.1M)(AgNO_(3))|Ag " " E_(Ag^(+)|Ag)^(@) = 0.80V

How many moles of NH_(3) must be added to 1.0L of 0.75M AgNO_(3) in order to reduce the [Ag^(o+)] to 5.0 xx 10^(-8)M. K_(f) Ag (NH_(3))_(2)^(o+) = 1 xx 10^(8) .

How much AgBr could dissolve in 1.0L of 0.4M NH_(3) ? Assume that Ag(NH_(3))_(2)^(o+) is the only complex formed. Given: the dissociation constant for Ag(NH_(3))_(2)^(o+) hArr Ag^(o+) xx 2NH_(3) , K_(d) = 6.0 xx 10^(-8) and K_(sp)(AgBr) =5.0 xx 10^(-13) .
