What is the workdone in bringins a body ...

What is the workdone in bringins a body of mass `m` from infinity to the surface of Earth of radius `R` and mass `m`?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`PE` of body at infinity `= 0`. `PE` of body on the
surface of earth `= - (GMm)/(R )`
Work done = change in `PE` of body in bringing from infinity to the surface of earth
`= 0 - (-(GMm)/(R )) = (GMm)/(R )`
