Suggest a reason for the larger differenece between boiling points of butanol and butanal, although they have almost the same solubility in water.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Butan-1-01 boils at 390 K whereas boiling point temperature of butanal is 348 K. Although both are polar but intermolecular hydrogen bonding is present in butan-1-01 and is absent in butanal.
