Sucrose in water is dextrorotatory, `[alpha]_(D)=+66.4^(@)` when boiled with dil. HCl, the solution becomes leavorotatory , `[alpha]_(D)=-39.9^(@)`,. In this process the sucrose breaks into

A

L-glucose +D-fructose

B

L-glucose+L-fructose

C

D-glucose+D-fructose

D

D-glucose+L-fructose

The correct Answer is:
C

The aqueous solution of sucrose is dextrorotatroy having `[alpha]_(D)=+66.4^(@)`. On hydrolysis with dilute acids or enzyme invertase, can sugar (sucrose) gives equimolar mixture of D-(+)-glucos and D-(-)-fructose
`underset([alpha]_(D)=66.4^(@))underset("cane sugar")(C_(12)H_(22)O_(11))+H_(2)O overset(HCl)tounderset([alpha]_(D)=+52.5)underset("D-glucose")(C_(6)H_(12)O_(6))+underset([alpha]_(D)=-92.4^(@))underset("D-fructose")(C_(6)H_(12)O_(6))`
So, sucrose is dextrorotatory but after hydrolysis gives dextrorotatory glucose and laevorotatory fructose. D-(-)-fructose has a greater specific rotation than D-(+)-glucose. therefore, the resultant solution is laeovorotatory in nature with specific rotation of `-39.9^(@)`.

Assertion : A solution of sucrose in water is dextrorotatory. But on hydrolysis in the presence of a little hydrochloric acid, it becomes laevaorotatory. Reason : Sucrose on hydrolysis gives unequal amounts of glucose and fructose. As a result of this, change in sign of rotation is observed.

D(+) Glucose has melting point 146^(@)C and specific rotation [alpha]_(C)6(25) is + 122^(@)C . Another D(+) Glucose has melting 150^(@) C and specific rotation [alpha]_(D)^(25) is + 18.7^(@)C . The two form have significantly different optical rotation but when an aqueous solution of either form is allowed to stand, it rotation changes. The specific rotation of one form decrease and rotation of other increases until both solution show the same value +52.7^(@) . The change in rotation towards an equilibrium value is called mutarotation. What percentage of beta -D-(+) glucopyrnsone found at equillibrium in the aqueous solution?

Three black powder A,B,D are kept in three dishes. A dissolves in dil H_(2)SO_(4) to give blue solution. Moistened with HCl, A gives a green colour in flame test. B does not dissolve in dil HCl but when boiled with concentrated HCl, dissolves giving chlorine. This solution with H_(2)S in ammonical solution produces a flesh coloured precipitate C does not dissolve in HCl but when heated with KNO_(3) , burns away evolving a gas which lime water milky. What are A,B, & C ?

A sugar exist in two isomeric form alpha-D & beta-D with specific rotation of 110^(@) and 30^(@) respectively. When alpha-D form of the suar is dissolved in water exhibits mutarotation till the equilibrium value of 90^(@) is attained. The equilibrium constant of mutarotation of beta-D form [Assuming only alpha and beta form in solution] is equal to:

A sulphide ore (A) on roasting leaves a residue (B) which on reacting with HCl forms a water soluble compound (C ). Addition of KI to the solution of (C ), another solution (D) is formed. A brown precipitate (E ) is formed when ammonia is passed into an alkaline solution of (D). Identify (A) to (E ).
