Why H(2) is more stable than H(2)^(+) wh...

Why `H_(2)` is more stable than `H_(2)^(+)` while `He_(2)^(+)` is more stable than `He_(2)` ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Bond order of `H_(2) = 1 , H_(2)^(+) = 0.5`
`He_(2)^(+) = 1.5 , He_(2) = 0`
`therefore H_(2)` is more stable than `H_(2)^(+)` but `He_(2)^(+)` is more stable than `He_(2)`.
