Wind is blowing in the north direction a...

Wind is blowing in the north direction at speed of 2 m/s which causes the rain to fall at some angle with the vertical. With what velocity should a cyclist drive so that the rain appears vertical to him:

A

`2m//s` south

B

`2m//s` north

C

`4m//s` west

D

`4m//s` south

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
b

Horizontal component of rain's velocity will be equal to velocity of wind which is `2m//s` in north direction. If cyclist goes towards north with velocity `2m//s`, then w.r.t him rain's horizontal component of velocity will be zero, and he will see only vertical component.

A standing man observes rain falling with the velocity of 20 m s^-1 at an angle of 30^@ with the vertical. (a) Find the velocity with which the amn should move so that rain appears to fall vertically to him. Now if he futher increases his speed, rain again appears to fall at 30^@ with the vertical. Find his new velocity.

Rain is falling vertically with a speed of 20ms^(-1) ., A person is running in the rain with a velocity of 5 ms^(-1) and a wind is also blowing with a speed of 15 ms^(-1) (both from the west) The angle with the vertical at which the person should hold his umbrella so that he may not get drenched is:

A glass wind screen whose inclination with the vertical can be changed is mounted on a car. The moves horizontally with a speed of 2m//s . At what angle alpha with the vertical should the wind screen placed so that the rain drops falling vertically downwards with velcoity 6m//s strike the wind screen perpendicularly?

Rain is falling vertically with a speed of 35 ms^(-1) . Winds starts blowing after sometime with the speeds of 12ms^(-1) in east to west direction. At what angles with the vertical should a boy waiting at a bus stop hold his umbrella to protect himself from rain?

To a man walking at 5kmph rain appears to fall vertically, and when he doubles his speed it appears to make an angle of 30^(@) with the vertical. Find the actual velocity of the rain. In what direction will rain appear to fall if the man suddenly turns around when his speed is 5 kmph?

A train is travelling along a horizontal rail at the rate of 90km//hr and rain, driven by wind blowing in the direction of motion of trani, falls at a velocity of 12.5m//s making an angle of 30^(@) to the vertical. Find the velocity of rain (in magnitude and direction) as seen from the train.

A man running at a speed of 5 km/h finds that the rain is falling vertically. When the stops running, the finds that the rain is falling at an angle of 60^(@) with the horizontal. The velocity of rain with respect to running man is

A man is standing on a road and observes that rain is failing at angle 45^(@) with the vertical. The man starts running on the road with constant acceleration 0.5m//s^(2) . After a certain time from the start of the motion, it appears to him that rain is still falling at angle 45^(@) with the vertical, with speed 2sqrt(2)m//s . Motion of the man is in the same vertical plane in which the rain is falling. Then which of the following staement(s) are true.

A person walking ,on a horizontal road at 2 km/h finds that the rain is falling vertically . Now the person increasses his speed to 4 km/h and find that rain makes an angle 45^(@) with the vertical . Find the velocity of rain with respect to the road.
