Assertions : A beam of white light give ...

Assertions `:` A beam of white light give a spectrum on passing through a hollow prism.
Reason`:` Speed of light outside the prism is different from the speed of light inside the prism.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If assertion and reason both are false.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Dispersion of light cannot occur on passing through air contained in a hollow prism. Dispersion take place because the refractive index of medium for different colour is different. Therefore when white light travels from air to air, refractive index remains same and no dispersion occurs.
