On reducing the volume of the gas at constant temperature, the pressure of the gas increases. Explain on kinetic theory.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

On reducing the volume, the space for the given number of molecules of the gas decreases, i.e. No.of molecules collide with the walls of the vessel per second and hence a large momentum is transferred to the walls per second. That is why the perssure of the gas increases.
