Which factors determine the frequency of a tuning fork ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Length of the prongs(l). The pitch (v) is inversely proportional to the square of the length (l) of the prongs. i.e., `vprop1//l^(2)`.
(ii) Thickness of the prongs (b). The pitch (v) is directly proportional to the thickness (b) of the prongs, i.e., `vpropb`.
(iii) Elasticity of the material (Y). The pitch is directly proportional to the square root of the young's modulus of elasticity (Y) of the material, i.e., `vpropsqrt(Y)`.
(iv) Density of the material `(rho)`. The pitch (v) is inversely proportional to the square root of the density of the material, i.e., `vprop(1)/(sqrt(rho))`.

Two tuning forks A and B produce 4 beats//s when sounded together . A resonates to 32.4 cm of stretched wire and B is in resonance with 32 cm of the same wire . Determine the frequencies of the two tuning forks .

50 tunning forks are arranged in increasing order of their frequencies such that each gives 4 beats/sec with its previous tuning fork. If the frequency of the last fork is octave of the first, then the frequency of the first tuning fork is
