The blue colour of copper sulphate solution is discharged when a rod of zinc is deppid in it.Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Zinc lies below copper in the electrochemeical series and can therefoe, release electrons to the `Cu^(2+)` ions .As a result Zn is oxidised while`Cu(2+)` ions are reduced.Sinc the concentration of `Cu^(2+)` ion sthe solution decreases the blue zolour of the solution is lsowly idscharged.
`Zn(s)+Cu^(2)(aq)rarrZn^(2+)(aq)+Cu(s)`
